On May 13, the Hoover Institution Library and Archives welcomed Prince Michel de Bourbon-Parme and Princess Maria Pia of Savoy, accompanied by Hoover overseer Howard Leach, former U.S. ambassador to France. Their royal highnesses were interested in the various collections in the Hoover Archives that document the histories of their extended families. Princess Maria Pia is the daughter of the last king of Italy, Umberto II. Prince Michel is the grandson of Prince Valdemar of Denmark and the great-nephew of Empress Mariia Feodorovna of Russia, the mother of the last czar of Russia, Nicholas II. The Hoover Institution Archives contains a collection of correspondence from Empress Mariia Feodorovna to her sister, Queen Alexandra of England, consort of King Edward VII. In addition, the archives houses the papers of Grand Duchess Ksenia Alexandrovna, the daughter of Maria Feodorovna and sister of Nicholas II, whose papers contain correspondence with members of many royal families of Europe.
