Hoover Institution (Stanford, CA) – Applications are open for the Hoover Student Fellowship Program, a three-quarter-long paid internship that enables Stanford undergraduate and graduate students to participate in important work across research disciplines and organizational areas at the Institution.

Students are paired according to study topics of their preference with Hoover fellows or staff members. They provide research and operational support, partake in exclusive programming with the fellowship cohort, and benefit from the guidance of their direct managers. Student fellows have the unique opportunity to learn from leading Hoover scholars, develop professional relationships, and enhance their career prospects in various policy-related fields.

During the 2022–23 academic year, student fellows can request assignment to projects in a wide range of fields of study, including the intersection of technology, economics, and governance; policy making at the state and local levels of government; US foreign policy; and pressing domestic issues such as housing, homelessness, energy, and tax policy. Students can also work in key Hoover operations areas, including Library & Archives, strategic communications and marketing, media relations, and government affairs.

The primary responsibilities of student fellows are conducting research and working on special assignments for their respective managers. Duties include collecting, synthesizing, and analyzing data; examining trends and reporting on current events in each fellowship area; writing summaries and memorandums on requested topics; and proofreading and editing materials. Students are also expected to take on additional tasks, including scheduling and prepping their managers for meetings, building distribution lists for event publicity, crafting marketing materials, assisting with Hoover events, and writing correspondence.

All students will be asked to complete a final presentation at the end of their internship to the director of the Hoover Institution and fellows and staff managers involved in the program. These presentations will vary according to topic area and be agreed upon between each student and their manager.

Fully enrolled Stanford undergraduates (sophomores, juniors, or seniors), and any Stanford graduate students are encouraged to apply. Applications are due by Friday, September 30, 2022. The internship will begin early October 2022.
