Overview & Eligibility
To support our active researcher population we are seeking enthusiastic, innovative, and service-oriented undergraduates, graduate students, or recent graduates for full time 10-12 week Summer Internship positions. This is an onsite position on Stanford University campus, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Applicants must begin the internship on June 2 or June 16, 2025.
What You Will Do
Library & Archives Interns support increased summer research and reading room activity by completing daily circulation and reading room support, including retrieving and reshelving materials and helping patrons with their requests while also participating in a variety of projects under professional direction and guidance relating to Preservation/Conservation, Research Services, Collections Digitization, Description and Collection Management. Training is provided.
What You Will Learn
Interns will come away with an understanding of library special collections and archival principles and experience in:
- Preventive and interventive basic preservation and conservation techniques, such as proper handling, cleaning, housing and stabilizing collection materials and awareness of storage and environmental conditions
- Conducting quality reference assistance, both in-person and remote
- Inner workings and logistics of collection management and the circulation of library and archival materials
- Basics of physical and digital collections management
Academic credits may be supported, as long as the student completes setup after discussing outcomes needed with the supervisor
