This essay analyzes how different technical solutions to Lebanon’s energy crisis would varyingly shape the country’s international relations. It draws from the political history of Lebanon’s energy industry—from the colonial era until the end of the Syrian occupation. Considering the various pathways out of the crisis, the essay concludes with a reflection on the role of American foreign policy in advancing peace, economic recovery, and human rights.
