The country continues to invest in large-scale public infrastructure as part of its economic development agenda. This sector has attracted foreign construction companies, particularly from China. The growth of the sector has, however, also seen an increase in corruption. Is corruption any different in this sector following the involvement of Chinese companies?
Rueben Lifuka is an anticorruption advocate and researcher with specific interests in corruption in the construction and natural resources sectors. He runs a Zambia-based environmental and governance consulting firm, Riverine Ltd., and also serves as vice chair of the board of Transparency International. Lifuka holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in architecture and environmental management.
