Lieutenant Colonel Nate Garner is a national security affairs fellow for the academic year 2024–25. Garner previously served as the operations officer, G3, for First Armored Division and Fort Bliss. Commissioned as an armor officer in 2004, he served in leadership and staff positions, including tank platoon leader and combined arms battalion commander, with deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Republic of Korea.

In addition to conducting his operational assignments, Garner taught American politics, policy, and strategy in the Department of Social Sciences at the US Military Academy at West Point, as well as serving on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon, both in the Office of Irregular Warfare, and as a joint strategic planner and special assistant to the director J7.

Garner earned his master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University and was a fellow in the University of North Carolina–Institute for Defense and Business Strategic Studies Fellowship Program.
