Dan Imbat was a Veteran Fellow at the Hoover Institution. Imbat was a member of the second cohort (2022–23).

Dan Imbat is senior director of business development focusing on strategic engagement at Shield AI, a San Diego–based venture-capital-backed artificial intelligence defense firm focusing on AI pilots, collaborative autonomy, edge behaviors, and tactical unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Imbat is also currently a Presidential Leadership Scholar working to bring critical medical supply drone delivery services to disparate underserved locations in eastern India. Prior to joining Shield AI, Imbat served 20 years as a naval aviator flying search-and-rescue missions for the Marines and in 2003 was selected to lead and develop tactical unmanned aircraft capability for Naval Special Warfare (NSW). As a plank owner and UAS Commander at NSW Special Reconnaissance Team One, Imbat worked closely with industry to bring the latest unmanned aircraft technologies to the SEAL teams, systems that are still in service today. Imbat holds a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from the US Naval Academy and a master’s in business from Troy State University. A lifelong learner, he has attended the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Tuck School at Dartmouth. He lives in San Diego with his wife, Leah, and they have four children.
