On November 2, 2017, a forum on Reddit.com was created for posting and discussing pornographic videos known as “deepfakes” which used AI to map faces of female celebrities such as Gal Gadot and Maisie Williams onto pre-existing video clips. The Reddit page quickly exploded to several thousand visitors—many of whom created and posted new videos—and gained wide attention after being featured in Vice Motherboard.
