The Hoover Institution’s program on Strengthening US-India Relations is hosting a series of closed roundtables that attract selected leading experts on India. They are convened by David Mulford, who is a visiting distinguished fellow at the Hoover Institution and was US ambassador to India from 2004 to 2009.

Tarun Khanna, the Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor at Harvard Business School and the director of the Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute at Harvard

Milan Vaishnav, senior fellow and director of the South Asia Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

The discussion was moderated by John Taylor, the George P. Shultz Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and the Mary and Robert Raymond Professor of Economics at Stanford.


BRIEF SUMMARY:

The United States and India must work together to form stronger economic relations. In order to promote policies that lead to stronger economic relations, it is imperative to understand how India’s system of economic policy making works. The purpose of this session was to analyze the various historical tendencies as well as more recent political calculations that have shaped India’s domestic economy.
