Barbara Biasi and Song Ma, speaking on “The Education-Innovation Gap


The Hoover Institution announces a new seminar series on Using Text as Data in Policy Analysis, co-organized by Steven J. Davis and Justin Grimmer. These seminars will feature applications of natural language processing, structured human readings, and machine learning methods to text as data to examine policy issues in economics, history, national security, political science, and other fields.

Our 5th session features a conversation with Barbara Biasi and Song Ma speaking on The Education-Innovation Gap on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 from 9:00AM – 10:30AM PT.


ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Barbara Biasi is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Yale School of Management, currently Visiting Assistant Professor at EIEF, and a Faculty Research Fellow at the NBER. Her work focuses on labor economics and the economics of education, with a specific focus on teachers’ labor markets, inequality in access to education, and the link between education and innovation. Prof. Biasi received her PhD from Stanford University in 2017.

Song Ma is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Yale School of Management (SOM) and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). Song Ma’s main research interests are corporate finance, entrepreneurial finance, innovation, industrial organization, antitrust, and business law. His research has been featured in top academic journals and won numerous research awards. His research has also been referenced by legislator and policy makers around the world, including the Federal Trade Commission, EU Competition Commission, and UK Competition and Markets Authority. Professor Ma was recognized as Poets & Quants 40 under 40 Best Business School Professor in 2021.
