Dr. Richard Haass is a veteran diplomat, a prominent voice on American foreign policy, and an established leader of nonprofit institutions. He is in his nineteenth year as president of the Council on Foreign Relations, an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, publisher, and educational institution dedicated to being a resource to help people better understand the world and the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other countries.Admiral Lee Hsi-min (retired) is a Senior Fellow at the Project 2049 Institute. He previously served as the Chief of the General Staff of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Armed Forces from 2017 to 2019. In this position, he coordinated the policy of carrying out the Overall Defense Concept (ODC) and improving military exercises and the preparedness of joint operations. Adm. Lee retired in July 2019 after 42 years of service in the ROC Navy. Before his retirement, he was awarded the Order of the Cloud and Banner with Special Grand Cordon by President Tsai Ing-wen in recognition of his service in enhancing the overall capabilities of Taiwan’s military.
Dr. Jaushieh Joseph Wu is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Prior to his current appointment, he was the secretary-general in the Office of the President (2017 – 2018), secretary-general at the National Security Council (2016 – 2017), secretary general of the Democratic Progressive Party (2014 – 2016), representative to the United States for the Democratic Progressive Party (2012 – 2016). Dr. Wu was the representative of the Republic of China to the United States as the head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. (2007 – 2008). Dr. Wu received his B.A. in political science from National Chengchi University in Taiwan, an M.A. in political science from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and a Ph.D. in political science from Ohio State University. He served as a research fellow in the Institute of International Relations at the National Chengchi University (1989 – 2002).
