Hoover’s audio holdings and innovative preservation efforts were featured in the spring edition of the journal of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections in an article by Hoover sound recording specialist Brandon Burke. His article "Designing a Housing for Horizontal Storage of Cracked or Broken Phonograph Discs” outlines the specifications, functionality, and implementation of a housing designed by Hoover archivists and conservators to accommodate cracked, broken, and/or badly delaminating instantaneous phonograph discs. Accompanied by photographs, design specifications, and a materials list, the article serves as a case study and guide for archivists and conservators seeking to preserve fragile lacquer discs. The techniques described by Burke have been adopted by several institutions with large audiovisual holdings, including Stanford University and the Belfer Audio Archive at Syracuse.
