In many ways, China may well be the key to reducing reliance on nuclear deterrence and to creating the conditions for a world without nuclear weapons. Chapters 11 and 12 discuss this premise from the perspectives of an American and a Chinese analyst. Both chapters explain the unique way of thinking about deterrence that characterizes Chinese strategy. The authors find areas of possible convergence between the United States and its allies, on the one hand, and China, on the other.
