Lieutenant Colonel Matthew “Fuego” Tuzel, representing the US Air Force, was a National Security Affairs Fellow for the academic year 2019–20 at the Hoover Institution.

Colonel Tuzel commanded an F‐16 training squadron at Luke AFB, Arizona. Prior to his assignment in Arizona, he served as a plans officer in Korea. He also served as an operational test pilot at Nellis AFB, Nevada and as a fighter pilot in Korea and Germany, and was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

He earned his undergraduate degree in history from the US Air Force Academy. He holds graduate degrees in history from Kansas State University in operational studies from the Marine Corps University.

As a fellow at Hoover, he will focus his research on national security affairs.
