Daniel J. Sargent

Daniel J. Sargent was the 2018–19 William C. Bark National Fellow at the Hoover Institution.

Sargent is an associate professor of history at the University of California, Berkeley. A specialist in US foreign relations, he is the author of A Superpower Transformed: The Remaking of American Foreign Relations in the 1970s (Oxford University Press, 2014) and a coeditor of The Shock of the Global: The 1970s in Perspective (Harvard University Press, 2010). He is also the coauthor of a forthcoming W.W. Norton textbook that situates the history of the United States in a global context. A graduate of Harvard University, Sargent has held fellowships at the Olin Institute for Security Studies at Harvard and at International Security Studies at Yale University. He is presently writing a book about the rise and fall of the American world order.
