About

Masafumi Okazaki was a research fellow at Hoover Institution, Stanford University. Okazaki has written many scholarly articles on the Allied occupation of Japan. His representative book, Chrysanthemum vs Christianity (a recipient of the Masayoshi Ohira Memorial Prize 2013), illustrates the difficult mission of propagating Christianity in defeated Shinto and Buddhist Japan.

Okazaki received his PhD from Nihon University in 2010, and served as a postdoctoral fellow at the same university (2010-13) and a researcher at the Center for Sustainable Development Studies of Toyo University (2013-15). In 2014 he cofounded a private think tank, the Academy for Japan-USA-Asia Affairs, and formed a business alliance with Direct Publishing, a prestigious digital publishing company in Japan.

Currently Okazaki worked with the Japanese Modern History Manuscript Collections in the Hoover Archives to digitize valuable papers so as to better understand the nature of imperial Japan, the US occupation of Japan, and the drafting of the Constitution of Japan.
