Dustin Chambers, Michael A. and Anita Paleologos Yagjian Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution in 2024, is researching new ways to analyze government regulations using natural language processing, large language models, and deep learning methods.

Chambers has been a professor of economics at Salisbury University since 2004 and a senior affiliated scholar at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University since 2017.

Chambers has written more than forty peer-reviewed white papers, policy papers, and journal articles spanning topics related to development economics, income inequality, poverty, entrepreneurship, and government regulations. He has conducted research for numerous organizations including the Mercatus Center, the National Governors Association, the Pew Charitable Trust, and the Center for Growth and Opportunity at Utah State University.

With respect to his research on regulatory reform, Chambers has testified before both the US Senate (Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management) and the Pennsylvania Senate (Senate Majority Policy Committee), provided written testimony to the Texas House of Representatives (Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee), and briefed staff from four state governor’s offices (Alabama, Maryland, Ohio, and South Dakota) and state lawmakers from eighteen states.

Chambers received his BA in economics from California State University–Fresno in 1997, his MA in economics from the University of California–Los Angeles, in 1998, and his PhD in economics from the University of California–Riverside, in 2004.
