Ian Morris was a National Fellow for the 2013-14 academic year.

He is the Willard Professor of Classics at Stanford University. He is an archaeologist and historian with a PhD from Cambridge University who taught at the University of Chicago (1987-95) before coming to Stanford. He has directed excavations in Greece and Sicily and published thirteen books, including the award-winning Why the West Rules--for Now, which has been translated into twelve languages. His next book, War! What Is It Good For? will appear in April 2014. At Stanford he has served as chair of the Classics Department, director of the Archaeology Center, and senior associate dean of Humanities and Sciences. He is a fellow of the British Academy.
