Robert Hessen passed away on April 15, 2024. 

Robert Hessen, a senior research fellow emeritus at the Hoover Institution, was a historian specializing in American economic and business history.

He received his BA from Queens College, his MA from Harvard University, and his PhD from Columbia University. He taught in the Graduate School of Business at Columbia until 1974. Since then, when he joined the Hoover Institution, he has taught in Stanford's Graduate School of Business.

He lectured frequently to business and academic audiences on government regulation of industry and has testified before congressional committees.
