William Summerhill is visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution and a professor of history at UCLA. He is an economic and political historian of Brazil. His research interests include sovereign debt, credit markets, schooling and human capital, railroads and infrastructure, and inequality. Summerhill has held visiting appointments at the Insper Institute of Education and Research, São Paulo; the Universidade de São Paulo (School of Economics, Business, and Accounting, or FEA-USP); and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris. He has been a visiting researcher at the Escola de Pós-Graduação em Economia of the Fundação Getulio Vargas, Rio de Janeiro; and a National Fellow of the Hoover Institution (1999–2000).  At Hoover he contributes to the Foundations of Long-Run Prosperity Working Group.
