The Hoover Institution National Security Task Force hosted a roundtable discussion with Ambassador Daniel J. Kritenbrink, U.S. State Department Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

Participants in the National Security Task Force met in conversation with Assistant Secretary Kritenbrink, a Foreign Service veteran in East Asia, to collectively consider how China’s leadership sees their nation’s role across what George Shultz referred to as the current global “hinge of history.” Discussants touched on China’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, on longer-term opportunities in US bedrock bilateral relationships with Japan and with Korea, on evolving dynamics in cross-Strait relations, and on joint USG interagency regional policy efforts.
