Pete Chin was previously a Veteran Fellow at the Hoover Institution 2022–23.

Pete Chin is currently a master instructor at Joint Special Operations University, US Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. For the past eight years, he has educated and mentored hundreds of senior Special Operations students (Army Rangers, Navy SEALs, Green Berets, Marine Forces Special Operations Command and Air Force Commandos, and Special Mission Unit personnel), developing, enhancing, and teaching lessons in strategy, geopolitics, energy, economics, and strategic competition. His military service includes time as a former Green Beret (sniper, assaulter, intelligence, military freefall, communications) with Fifth Special Forces Group and army ranger at First Ranger Battalion. He has deployed multiple times on combat tours in the Middle East, and also has regional experience in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Oceania, and Latin America. Chin holds an MBA from the University of Oxford, a master of international affairs from Columbia University focused on international security with a specialization in the Middle East, and a BA from the University of Chicago in international relations.
